HOW TO AVOID SPIRITUAL SLUMPS DURING THE RECEISSION

TODAY'S RECESSION may have you in a spiritual slump a/k/a depression!



When this happens, YOU may be dealing with more serious mood and emotional symptoms due to the spiritual recession. You may be primarily concerned with your financial worries and those fears are making it difficult to lead your everyday spiritual life. It could also be a warning sign of a mental health disorder (can't concentrate, can't eat, can't sleep, can't stop crying, or a spiritual health matter when you can't find God!...).



This may sound extreme, but I actually suffered a nervous breakdown when I was laid off in 1993! My fears: how to keep a roof over my head, how to feed my family, how to pay bills, how to find employment, how to pay medical costs, and on and on until my mind CRASHED! I forgot all about God and feeding my spirit during this lay-off experience.



Godf will always quiet the mind and allow us to find our way when we have that mustard seed of faith first in our lives. If I knew the symptoms of depression and where to go to get help, I could have prevented the nervous breakdown, but nobody likes to admit they can't "handle it" so when I lost my job, I kept those worries pinned up inside of me and I did not have a clue where to turn for help. I was too ashamed and prideful to go to the church pantry and I was too distracted and embarrassed while at church service to hear anything the preacher said. That period of my life was one big spiritual mess! Then on top of that, I suffered a nervous breakdown and was labeled with a mental illness. I was forever lost, or so it seemed.

The early days of my recovery with a mentlal condition were very harsh and humiliating. It was embarrassing, shameful, and frustrating! But God heard my fervent cries and restored my mind to give me purpose. That purpose is to evangelize about His mercy and grace. We are warned in Luke 21:34 to pay attention to signs and symptoms and the only way we can pay heed to those warnings is to educate ourselves about prevention to preserve the mind and spirit.

You may be very worried about bills, a higher-paying job, paying for your child's college, meeting your house note/rent, keeping food on the table and distracted about other carnal things without realizing you abandoned God. Remember, I abandoned God, but believed HE abandoned me….Jos. 1:5



When my doctors told my family to admit me into a mental institution and move on with their ies, it was God who came down off His throne to see about me. He led me to discover how to recover by transforming my mind. Eph. 4:11
